Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)

sudo aptitude install hwinfo
hwinfo --netcard
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep witch
iwconfig

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread

Keep in mind that one or more of the following 4 basic components need to be configured correctly so that wireless can work correctly in Linux:

Wireless configuration in the BIOS, hardware wireless switch setting, active wireless driver version, and firmware for the wireless chipset (stored as a file in Linux).

Regards,

Mark

I feel a real idiot. I booted the cd a 2nd time and it detected the wireless & networks so I installed again and its all working. Must have been a glitch or something when I first booted the CD & I didn't notice the wireless not working before I Installed. Sorry for the trouble.

I still have a problem. The wireless worked flawlessly after many restarts. however, when I turned the laptop off completely then restarted it later the wireless failed to work. I don't understand why it worked perfectly until I turned it off. I think this is a bug of some description, Can you help

Try to install the linux-restricted-modules package and then doing 'sudo modprobe -r ath_pci' and 'sudo modprobe ath5k' and paste outputs here and dmesg after that also.

Hi all,
I have the same problem on same machine (I think) as Roadrash has. FS Amilo li1718. After upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 wifi stopped working. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't find ethernet AR242x. There was some problem wifi drivers as usuall, but roadrashe's script solved it for me. Now there is only this one problem of finding/ not finding the HW.
I am posting outputs in files. Few are same.
Cheers Mich

Hi,

Please try the 4-step-procedure at the end of this link and then reboot:

Dear Michal T,

I think that thus should be reported as a bug. Perhaps it'll get the
attension it deserves that way.

You can run the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' to file a bug on the kernel.
It will attach relevant system information to the report for you.

Many blessings.
