Personal NOTES re above:
- both Linsys are currently connected to usb ports - one used to connect to internet/send this mssage; WS6300 is recognized apparently/not working/unsuccessful install pls see Launchpad posted question #690967
- both wifi usb devices are recognized in above OUTPUT.
- lsmod lists 8812au
- when ONLY WS6300 IS USB CONNECTED there is no internet access.
- on previous LTS releases BOTH devices abobe worked in tandem/greater and faster throughput

I have no clue what the reason is, but there is a crash shown with the WAN driver 8812au:

You seem not to be the only one experiencing this, see e.g. Bug #1872961

just remembered - on past Ubuntu releases ie 18.o4
- at every new kernel release rtl8812au had to be reinstalled

was it due to the fact that 8812au.ko was installed on /lib/modules/xxxx-generic/updates/dkms/
NOT on
/usr/.../src ?

well Manfred, reading Ur post it looks to me that this bug touches other vital packages/has much broader implications.

what else can I say at this time BUT that I AM A LUCKY ONE - have access to the world USING the OTHER wifi device/dongle that has NEVER created such problems on ANY OTHER Ubuntu releases, it JUST WORKS, plug it in and is immediately recognized by the OS.

In conclusion - for the time being I WILL be JUST USING IT until the much better minds in the dev community finds within the OS 'bowels' what is going on and hopefully find a working solution to this wonderful fast Linksys WUSB6300 device with rtl8812au.

I'll keep this bug open and ready to provide any help to the devs as directed.
Please keep me posted of any new developments. Thank you.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask peter b for more information if necessary.
