Ubuntu 12.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way. I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Focal (Ubuntu 20.04). This is LTS and is supported until April 2025.

No "64-bit" anywhere. You really are restricted to 32-bit operating systems.

The last Ubuntu installation that comes with a 32bit desktop installer is Ubuntu 16.04 (support for another year), but there are tricks allowing to install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS 32bit (supported until April 2023).
