It is normal that your wireless adapter is not working in Ubuntu 14.04.

Your wireless adapter is the following:

Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0042] (rev 31)

If you search for QCA9377 here

https://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_Wi-Fi_Device_IDs_in_Linux

you will see that you need to run Linux kernel v4.4 or newer to have support for your wireless adapter.

However, you are currently running an older Linux kernel 3.14.4-031404-generic which is older than v4.4.

So it is strange that you downgraded from a working distro (16.04) to a non-working one (14.04)

Jeremy (wa113y3s) said : #5

I don't think that the QCA9377 had firmware in the original 16.04 release nor is it in trusty updates. Even with kernel 4.4 in 14.04 https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/linux-firmware will need to be installed

Can you help with this problem?
