1. I suggest that you try the bcmwl-kernel-source driver as described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

2. Are you aware of the messages like
[ 12.983947] ata1.00: cmd 60/00:a8:00:98:ea/02:00:37:00:00/40 tag 21 ncq 262144 in
[ 12.983947] res 40/00:98:00:b7:ea/00:00:37:00:00/40 Emask 0x50 (ATA bus error)
[ 49.266228] ata1: SError: { HostInt PHYRdyChg 10B8B DevExch }
in your system logs?
They might indicate a failing hard disk.

I do not know what the cause is for these harddisk-related messages.
As a first step I suggest that you keep an eye on your system logs to check whether there messages re-appear.
And as a precaution you should of course care for backup copies of your important files on another medium.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask macxwhale for more information if necessary.
