Could you give a description of you current network.

Something like for DSL:

Telephone Wall outlet -> DSL Modem -> Bridged Router -> Computer

Also, are you wanting a static IP from a router, or have you had one assigned to you from your service provider?

I am using comcast with a netgear router and home networking. current ubuntu intrepid ibex

I am needing a static ip address for my router. I normally do not have to get one from my service provider. I am using cable broadband. I need the static ip for port forwarding settings on my router.
