Network

Asked by scooterguydude

I need to figure out how to get another computer on the internet via my PC. They're both running ubuntu 7.10 and I have an active connection to my internet via my router. Here's how my network's layed out. I've got the modem running to the router, and a 100' Cat5 Cable running from my router to my PC. I've got an external network card, and I have an internal, both work. I'm using the external, and I was wondering if I could use my computer to give the second PC an internet via the integrated network card in my motherboard.

I'm not sure I understand;
Computer 1 is connected to a router and is online.
You are asking if you can connect Computer 2 to the internet.
You want to connect Computer 2 to Computer 1 in order to give Computer 2 internet.
You want to do this via wireless? Ethernet cable?
Can you connect Computer 2 to the router and get internet that way?

I've only got One cat 5 cable long enough to reach the router. And yes, i'm trying to give computer 2 internet via ethernet cable using computer 1.

You'll need to use an ethernet crossover cable. You should be able to find one of these at (nearly) any place which sells computers. You can not do it with a standard-issue ethernet cord.

Can you help with this problem?
