D-Link DWA-130 USB Wifi Adapter not connecting to hidden network on Ubuntu

Asked by KSousa

I trying to access a hidden network on a quadruple boot computer through Ubuntu 14.10 via a D-Link DWA-130 USB WiFi adapter. My understanding is that Ubuntu comes with the necessary drivers for this device (or it's chip set, which ever) however i'm not 100% that is true. Ubuntu is on the last partition of the HDD. I'm not sure sure the computer type as it's mostly a custom build. There are other non-hidden networks that appear (however they are locked) trying to connect to the hidden network with the SSID scdsbgw it simply tries to connect and then cannot. On other devices (Windows, OSX, iOS and Android) it will either automatically bring up a browser to log into the server or we have to manually open the browser for it to do that. On Windows 7 and 8 one has to connect to one of the hidden networks that appears type in the SSID exit when it asks for the password and reconnect to the scdsbgw network that shows up after you type in the SSID. Does anyone know how to connect to the hidden network successfully on Ubuntu? If it's a driver I need does anyone know where i can get one?

I ran through the majority of these steps:

This was the result of Step 2:

This was the result of step 6:

Thank you,

Utopic is EOL in July this year. Vivid is released soon, you may find the WiFi works there if you upgrade.

Okay I wasn't aware a new build of Ubuntu was coming out. Could I download the 32 bit Vivid now and install it on my computer or will i have to wait until june? If I can upgrade how would i do so without messing up the multiboot system i have going right now(can it be done with in Ubuntu or Do i need to format the partition and install Vivid)

If I can't upgrade how can i make it work on Utopic (as this is for class and in June i'll be out of class)?

Vivid is in beta now so you can either upgrade what you have online or download the beta image and do a clean install of that.
