14.10 Wifi worked fine, then became slow, now stopped working altogether

Asked by Steffen Kurpierz

It is a Lenovo Ideapad yoga 2 13'', intel core i5, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd,
wireless card is intel 7260
The laptop came with win 8.1preinstalled. I got rid of it by booting from a ubuntu 14.10 usb device and installing 14.10 as my sole os.
All that happened on Friday and Saturday last week. It all worked fabulously.
Since Monday afternoon I've been having problems, though. At first the wifi speed dropped very noticably. Then it stopped connecting altogether.
The situation now is this:
Wifi is trying to connect to my router (which is visible, correct key entered etc.) but can't establish connection.
The laptop does not have a hardwired ethernet connection. So I'm doing this via my desktop mac. This is also why the diagnostics I ran according to your "how to" - well, I don't know what they are worth now.
Router works fine with other wireless devices in the house (internet radio set, google tablet)
Ran ubuntu from the bootable usb and the same problem there.
Initiated installation from bootable stick and the same problem there. Didn't go through with a complete new installation because the problem seemes to me to lie elsewhere.
Seem to have hit a dead end.
Oh, and I really don't know that much about computers. It's just that I so much enjoyed working with it on my old laptop. Never used Windows in the last 18 months or so...
I hope someone can help me. Thanks a lot
Steffen

SORRY! Put a hold on everything.
I have just rebooted my router. And now it works. Don't know why that didn't work earlier.
Hope this will solve it.
Will post more later.
Thank you

Based on the diagnostics readout you provided, it appears that you are experiencing issues with the wireless connectivity on your Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 2 running Ubuntu 14.10. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the problem:

Check the Wi-Fi hardware: Make sure the wireless card (Intel 7260) is properly recognized and functioning. The diagnostics output indicates that the wireless card is detected and the driver in use is "iwlwifi."

Verify network settings: Ensure that you have entered the correct network key (password) for your router. Double-check the SSID (network name) as well. It's possible that an incorrect key or SSID is preventing your laptop from establishing a connection.

Restart networking services: Try restarting the network services on your Ubuntu system. You can do this by running the following command in the terminal: sudo service network-manager restart. This will restart the network manager, which may help resolve any connectivity issues.

Update Ubuntu: Since Ubuntu 14.10 is an older version, it's recommended to update to a more recent release if possible. Newer versions often include bug fixes and improved hardware support. You can consider upgrading to a supported release like Ubuntu 20.04 or 21.04.

Seek further assistance: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it may be helpful to reach out to the Ubuntu community or forums for additional support. They can provide specific guidance based on your hardware and software configuration.

Remember, these suggestions are based on the information provided, and it's always a good idea to backup your important data before making any significant changes to your system. Copied from https://theoxfordnews.com/

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Steffen Kurpierz for more information if necessary.
