cant download sun Java

I can't get Sun Java to download. The computer stops in the middle of loading and freezes up. Im sure I need to probably turn the firewall off, but I don't know how. I am not used to the operating system on this computer. It would be nice if you could download the program directly to the computer without having to jump thru hoops to figure out what I am not doing and what I need to do.

Hello

Please provide us more info on the way you are downloading the file and whether you are using firestarter..

Try going to Applications --> Add/Remove --> next to show make sure it says All available applications --> then next to search type Java --> click all the Java boxes.
