Unable to connect to access point using [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter [8086:1043] (rev 04)
Hi,
I have installed Lubuntu 14.04.1 on a HP Pavillion zt3000 laptop (from around 2003) with forcepae boot options.
The integrated wifi is unable to connect to a WEP access point and Lubuntu's network manager applet shows no signal strength on any of the WPA or WEP access points in my area. On attempt to connect to my home wifi, it asks for password but never fully connects. About 30 seconds later it asks for password again but it again tries to connect but never does.
This problem also occurs on Ubuntu 12.04 and also occurs when manually setting up wifi through the /etc/network/
I will post the entire debug output as a separate post below:

As the internal wifi is failing, I am using a RTL8188 USB wifi adapter to connect to the local network. The integrated wifi can't connect even when the USB wifi adapter is removed.
Here is the debug output:

Remove the USB wifi and run the below command:
echo "options ipw2100 if_name=wlan0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.
Reboot to test.

ok, run:
sudo rm /etc/modprobe.
echo "options ipw2100 led=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.
sudo modprobe -r ipw2100
sudo modprobe ipw2100
Is it then ok (no reboot required)

Thanks for your help actionparsnip, but the firmware link above eventually reaches http://
I played around using Ubuntu 10.10, and it seems I have been having the same problem as this very old bug from 2005: https:/
Changing my router from NG-mixed to BG-mixed allows me to connect so I am marking this question as solved.
