Wireless Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01) cannot connect to wireless access point using Samsung N230 Storm netbook in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Asked by Sabre

repeated wlan authentication required - no connection (Trusty)

Hello! I'm using a Samsung N230 Storm netbook and since the recent installation of Ubuntu 14.04 (unity) I cannot connect to the wireless network. The Network Manager lists available wireless networks including the one I'm trying to connect to. When I try to connect, a new window asks me to confirm the (correct) key and will reappear again and again. Of course I tried dis- and re-enabling the Wi-Fi as well as restarting. I made sure I have the right driver and that I haven't touched any hardware switches. Unfortunately I have not been able to try any other wireless networks, but others can connect to this one without any problem, although the signal is sometimes weak. I have spent days reading and searching the web, but I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem and will be grateful for any advice!

This is my Network controller:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01)

Please first connect your PC to your wireless router using a LAN/ethernet cable.

Then I suggest logging into the wireless router using a webbrowser and then:

1) enabling SSID broadcasting to make sure the access point is not hidden anymore
2) forcing the wireless router to use wireless-G (54 Mbps) speeds for troubleshooting purposes
3) changing the access point name from "FRITZ!Box 6320 v2 Cable" to fritzbox without any special characters or spaces in the SSID name.

Then reboot the router and your PC and retest wireless.

Also changing to wireless channel 11 in your router will help.

Thanks Mark Rijckenberg, that solved my question.

It's working again after resetting the router (necessary to access the configuration in this case), renaming the network and restarting the computer. Thank you very much!
