I got the first message before like you (ethernet interface eth0 not available) when i installed the ubuntu 7.10 in a new brand machine like lenovo or hp, specially if the interface is Gigabyte speed.

To resolve this issue, I had to put an old ethernet card te be recognized by the system, and after i made update, the system recognize the new eth0.

The second message, it seems that turtle firewall is depend on the webmin software to get running
