wireless connection issue

The router i have has a SSID of NETGEAR02. my receiver in my desktop is a usb pick-up from Edimax. when i try to connect to the router, which Ubuntu recognizes, there is a minute of waiting, then Ubuntu asks for a passcode, which i have and is correct when typed in. however, after another minute of attempted connection, the same passcode prompt is asked: a process which continues as infinitum. I have JUST started using Ubuntu, so your answer to my problem may have to be spelled out to a sad degree.
