If you use a wired connection instead is everything OK?

Open a terminal and run the following commands

--------------------------
lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo iwlist scan
--------------------------

Enter password when requested. There is no feedback when you type but the password is being accepted.

Copy and paste all the results back here and also tell us the name of your network as the above command will list all the networks your computer can see not only yours.

Not a fix but should give us something to go on.

Maybe the reason is that you use an old wireless card and there's no driver for it.

Can you help with this problem?
