Bugs in 12.10 on Dell T3400

Asked by george_rutkay

Hi

I recently upgraded my Dell T3400 from Ubuntu 10.10 to 12.04, then when I saw there were problems I tried 12.10. The same problems exist.

1) Built-in Ethernet hardware is not recognized. Under 10.10 Dell's built-in Ethernet hardware worked perfectly well. Now, because fortunately I have a WiFi card in my T3400, it is the only network connection that 12.xx works with. Why was support for the built-in Ethernet hardware dropped?

2) When logging out and then trying to shut down the T3400, very often it will not shut down. Only from within a logged-in session may the T3400 shut down. This never happened under 10.10

3) Some quirks about the video driver. During startup the screen on my monitor goes black, the monitor complains of signal loss. Then the screen comes back up to the login screen.

I don't like it when software is "improved" to the point where it starts to foul up on my computer, that fails to be an improvement. And it's not good to discontinue support for older softwares which work perfectly well but then force you to upgrade to keep security updates coming in. It almost smells like a Micro$oft bullying approach.

Please somebody fix these problems in 12.10. Thank you.

How did you do the upgrade? Did you upgrade to Natty, Oneiric and then to Precise or did you upgrade in one step?

I did a clean install from a burned CD. Wiped the drive, clean new install.

From 10.10 to 12.04, this was done with a drive wipe and clean install.

I saw these issues then.

Then I did a drive wipe and clean install with 12.10. Same issues.

It is very frustrating.
