Just put the CD/DVD of Windows , boot from there and install . What is the problem ?

The only thing you have to be careful is to set CD/DVD first device in BIOS , to read from there.

Ubuntu can't stop you booting from a CD.

The most likely problem is the BIOS is blocking you. Most computers have an option to go into bios settings at start-up. The method varies by manufacturer but it will be a certain key press at the right time.

Go into the settings make set the first boot device to CD/DVD. Put your windows disk in and reboot. Ubuntu wont even start so it can't block anything.

If you can not see how to get into bios settings, or how to change it once you are in let us know the make and model of your computer. Someone hear may have one and be able to give you step by step instructions

As Warren Hill said , Ubuntu has nothing to do with BIOS or installation of a new Operating System. Probably you use the wrong way to install Windows.

First you have to boot INTO BIOS configuration page and set as FIRST BOOT DEVICE the CD/DVD. Then hit the appropriate button to save this configuration. Then insert the CD/DVD of Windows and restart. It SHOULD automatically start the Windows installation process. That was it. Done.

Thanks

ok firstly I am NOT doing it wrong ,and if Ubuntu cant effect a disc instalation then its funny how I never had ANY problems before I installed ubuntu so dont tell me if im doing something wron ... you have no idea what im doing and for your information I had a computer repauir guy look at it and he even said the same that ubuntu is preventing it
As for me using windows ... I can read and I do exactly what it says in both the ubuntu manual and the windows manuals (for instalation) so dont you tell me if im doing something wrong cos you have no FKN clue

You don't run the CD from inside Ubuntu to install WIndows. You make the OS boot from the CD before ANY OS starts to boot. This is not an Ubuntu issue and your issue is with Windows. You need to change the BIOS boot order so that the CD is the first boot device and the installation will kick off.

This is NOTHING to do with Ubuntu.

yea ive already done that Actionparsnip ive tried that with both the versions of windows I have here one of which is brand new fresh out the box and it still goes straight to ubuntu then tells me that ubuntu does not run this programme so ive do the cd section first and rebooted it, ive followed ALL the instructions in the ubuntu manual and I have called the windows helpline all seem to point at a problem with ubuntu ....perhaps you need to accept that on this occasion perhaps you ar ewrong and ubuntu has messed up
so any other smart ideas cos those ones dont work

What's the make and model of your computer?

If you boot from a windows CD it will allow you to replace whatever is on the hard drive. Ubuntu will not run so it can't possibly get in the way.

So we need to need to look at why you do not seem to be able to boot from the CD. When you boot there will be a key, or combination of keys to press to go into bios settings from there you will be able to set the CD as the boot device then let Windows install.

If you let us example on many Dell Asus and Acer laptops you have to press F2 soon but not instantly after start-up but before the OS starts to get into the bios settings. Other makes may be different but, if you let us know the make and model, hopefully someone here will have the same computer and can give you step by step instructions.

I have an Acer Aspire 5332 here which is probably similar pressing F2 when you boot takes you into the bios settings

from there use the right arrow key 3 times to get to boot settings

use the down arrow to get to the CD Drive then press F6 repeatedly to get it to the top of the list.

Now Open the CD and put your windows CD in. Press F10 to save and it should boot from the CD installing windows and replacing Ubuntu

Can you help with this problem?
