Asked by Prasad

I recently installed Ubuntu 64 bit version into a compaq Presario V3500. Initially the wireless network option was in networks but was not recognizing any wireless network which is up and running with no problems. It is showing DEVICE NOT READY(FIRMWARE MISSING). I am on the internet using the wired option with no problems. Help me out please.

Try:

sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter bcmwl-kernel-source

Reboot to test

Bug 732677 is still a problem in 12.04, so I'd avoid the bcmwl-kernel-source package. The b43 driver works fine with the 4311 chip when you supply the firmware, which installing the b43-fwcutter package will offer to do when on a wired connection (the first time), or just install the open source firmware in package firmware-b43-installer.

Can you help with this problem?
