Asked by KRISHNAKANTH MANIVANNAN

Hi Team,

I am new to UBUNTU Linux. I have installed ubuntu 12.0.4.

I am using Reliance Netconnect Datacard to connect to the internet. The plug and play software is not getting installing into my machine.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

You more than likely don't need additional software. Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

Thanks

Do not even try to install the software provided with datacards and datasticks. The Windows version will not work. A Linux version (if there is one) won't work as well. I have not experienced a single case in which the provided software worked.

On the other hand Ubuntu supports many data sticks out of the box.
At first make sure the package usb-modeswitch is installed.
When installing the stick, a menu should pop up, asking some questions about your prodiver, like country, name and plan. After that you should see a entry in the networkmanager. Click on the network manager icon in the top right corner. Depending on the state of your network it can look differently.

If there is no pop-up menu or entry in network manager, please attach the stick, open the Terminal, enter
lsusb
and post the output here.
