Wireless Network Adapters

Asked by Chris Bowman

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 (just put an old PC I found in my basement back together) I want to get it online to update it, but I don't know what kind of wireless network adapter would be compatible with it. Could I have some suggestions please?

Please keep in mind my price range is around $10-$20, thank you.

Hi Chris,

It would be very helpful if you provide us more informations about which hardware does your computer use. You might want to search for universal drivers on internet for linux but I would suggest you, what you firstly try with live cd. It might work.

If that helps you solve your question, please mark thread as solved.

Regards,
Miha

Its an HP Pavilion a1419h. I used to run windows XP on it, but due to some virus issues that crashed, so I installed the free ubuntu installation CD I received in the mail.

it has no wireless networking cards installed, just the run of the mill ethernet/dial up jacks in the back.
Used a P4 processor, ATI radeon express 200 graphics card. thats really all I know about its hardware currently.
Live CD does not work, it just goes to the log in screen.

Can you help with this problem?
