12.04 Networking

Asked by clombard

Using 11.10 I decided to try a live cd of 12.04. I was delighted t see networking
had improved. From the Ubuntu Destop panel I went to Network and saw
all my connected network devices and machines and was able to get to them.
So I did the "upgrade" from the update manager to 12.04.
Now when I go to the top panel and select "Network" all I see is
Windows Network and get an error message "unable to mount location".
I tried the live CD again and networking shows all connected machines.
Is it some problem with the "upgrade" as compared to a new install...?
Very disappointed. Why can Networking be less frustrating with Ubuntu...?
What is the problem?
thanks

If you make a fresh user in Ubuntu, log in as the new user, is it ok?

When upgrading to 12.04 using the update manager it did not work as well as the live cd.
Reluctantly I did a new wubi intall and now 12.04 works exactly like the live cd.
Unfortunately I had to back up all my files, setup all programs and mail accounts which is
very time consuming and frustrating.
The previous version was probably a wubi install.
Solved.
