unstable network connection since upgrade to precise

Asked by darodi

Hi

I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 last week. I now have 2 problems with my network connection.
Had none of them before.

1-Sometimes, my network card disconnects and seems frozen
2- wake on lan doesn't work anymore.

Problem 1:
  - carrier is lost
  - i cannot restart the interface from the graphic network manager
  -/etc/init.d/networking restart does nothing
   -ifconfig hangs
   -I tried to restart the kernel module, rmmod hangs too.
   -the only solution is a brutal reboot with the power button. "shutdown -h now" hangs too

Here is my config:

- bios wasn't changed

I've got exactly the same problem.
Any solution yet?

Do you think we should try the latest upstream kernel? Or it won't change a thing?

I miss wol, but I can live without it.
However a machine I have to force reboot once or twice a day is not really convenient.

There's no answer, and the problem is still relevant to me.
Please come back to this question anyone.

I'm having similar network issues with this adapter using Ubuntu server 12.04 as well.

@David Dunlap

I don't have this problem anymore.
I think I just upgraded my kernel using
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

FYI:

My issue is mainly with overall performance of the network adapter. For example, when downloading from Astraweb Usenet, a laptop on my network will sustain 2MB/s down (20Mbit) where my Ubuntu server will only sustain ~800KB/s down (8Mbit). This is a huge difference.

Further info... I just installed a simple dlink 10/100 network card I had laying around and after configuring, my download speeds and streaming is acting like it should. It's definitely an issue with the driver for the onboard gigabit nic, I feel.
