Disable All Wireless Automatic Connection-Network Manager

Asked by Jozua Judah

I am running ubuntu 11.10 on gnome 3 shell with macbuntu theme installed.

I have Dell laptop Latitued D630 with a Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz × 2 and 2GIG's of memory.

I have switched of notification and it is on that matter I would like help.

My machine tries to connect to all the wireless networks it picks up on.

When I move my mouse down to the right hand corner to access my apps that run in the background like skype and banshee the status of the network manger is always visible because it keeps on telling me that it either failed to authenticate or couldn't connect to wireless network.

When right click on it the status update say remove its back in a minute or so.

My question. Is there way I can set network manager NOT to connect to any wireless connection automatically?

I have tried the conventional way for some of them my going trough network settings and selecting the wireless option and then unticking connect automatically, but on some of them the save button is greyed out.

So I cant untick all of them.

Hi Murali

Thanks for the response. Didn't work since my GUI doesn't allow me to do that. Gnome 3 looks to be very restrictive. But its ok. I just discoverd I can disable my wireless network while I am on my 3g modem with out swithing my 3G modem off. Its not ideal but for now I will do it like that. At the office I connect to a wireless network and dont seem to get the irregular status updates. But I cant say forsure because I haven't been observing it that much. But I have been using Gnome 3 with ubuntu 11.10 for 2 week now. If i dont come right with this small work around I will re-open this issue.
