Gigaset C610AIP causing wireless dropouts

Asked by towe0609

Desperately hoping someone can help....

I am not an experienced Ubuntu user, so I'd be grateful if you'd take the time to take me through it one step at a time.

Symptoms
I get frequent (seems random but can be every few minutes) wireless drop outs on my PC when the C610AIP is connected to an ethernet port on the Router. These drop-outs only seem to affect the machine with Ubuntu and don't affect other wireless devices. The 'indicator' top right in Ubuntu doesn't change, but there is no wireless connectivity (cannot access Router IP, VOIP Phone IP or Internet). The Internet connection remains up on the router. If I reselect my wireless network, it shows the disconnect and reconnect and usually back in business.

When I unplug the ethernet cable from the router, the problem resolves itself permanently.

Hardware
Billion 7800N Wireless Modem/Router - Firmware 1.06c.dc1
Gigaset C610AIP VOIP Phone (Siemens) Firmware 42.050
ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless N PCIe Adaptor - No drivers installed - just whatever Ubuntu did on install

Software
Ubuntu 11.10 (32 Bit)

Set-up
I have set the router to provide a static IP address for the C610AIP

Any ideas?

I can't see how, other than through RF interference, the phone could be affecting your ubuntu system.

I'd just check that no-one else around you is using the same wifi channel, i.e. change the channel on your router to the least-used channel in the area. Be aware that channels overlap in 802.11, so you need to use a very different channel to others, as shown here:

Can you help with this problem?
