cannot connect to my broadband network

i' m new to ubuntu. i have a netbook where there is currently ubuntu 11.10 and windows 7 installed. i connect to the internet using ab 8-pin lan port, using a lan cable my isp has provided, with a user name and a password. ubuntu has one option named ' auto ethernet' but connecting to it does not actually connect to the internet. i created a connection with pppoe , a username and a password. but i didnt find any way to connect it.

go to "Network connections" menu and add a new DSL profile. you will find a window with options to add user name and password. give the input and select the "connect automatically" option.

i did... but when i click on the network icon on a network named "Auto Ethernet" appears........ is there any way in which i can connect to my internet by myself??

Try to click on Wired and there edit your connection.

while configuring in DSL settings, there are additional tabs there
with further data of MAC address etc....make sure you have selected
the mac address of eth0. it will be blank by default and you can just
click on it and scroll down to select mac address of eth0. also tick
on "connect automatically" option.
