hotkeys not working on ASUS G73JW laptop in Ubuntu 11.10

Asked by Zach S.

Hi. Are there any new ways to install windows drivers on ubuntu? I believe the last time I went about doing this I used ndiswrapper which was a bad solution that did not really work. Does anyone know if there is any new methods to installing windows drivers on ubuntu?

My system is as follows:

Ubuntu 11.10
ASUS G73JW laptop

You may not need to install the windows driver using ndiswrapper. Wireless support has become much better in recent times.

Can you post the output of the following terminal commands?

lsb_release -a
uname -a
sudo lspci
sudo lsmod
sudo lshw -C network

Then post the results back here

I'm not trying to install wireless drivers. I'm trying to install windows drivers for other things such as hotkey support.

Also, when I say hotkey support I'll elaborate. Ok so I have a laptop. My laptop has certain keys you can press that will perform a specific function. I have a hotkey for brightness of monitor, sound, wireless, and turning the computer to sleep. Ok so in windows I have to install my hotkey drivers from my manufacturer's site in order for windows to play nice. This does not differ with Ubuntu. So it drives me friggin nuts to not be able to use these useful keys on ubuntu. I want to know if there is a better way to install the windows hotkey driver than using ndiswrapper.

The OS is completely different so that won't work. Can you give the output of mycae's commands.

Thanks
