Do you have a shortcut to turn wifi off and on? If so then hit it and see if the wifi works. If it's no good then try:

sudo rfkill list

See if it works then.

Please copy-paste the following command into the Terminal and then press
<ENTER>:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Using the gedit editor, please ADD the following configuration line into
the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:

blacklist acer_wmi

Using the gedit editor, SAVE the change to the

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file.

Then REBOOT and retest wireless. This blacklist operation should make
the change permanent, even after rebooting.

This should force the Linux kernel to stop loading the acer_wmi module,
which is probably causing the kernel to soft block your wireless adapter.

The acer-wireless interface is an invalid wireless interface on your
computer, because you are using a Lenovo V570, not an
ACER computer.

Also run the following 2 Terminal commands to try to change the rfkill
state of your wireless chipset:

rfkill unblock all

sudo rfkill unblock all

Then retest wireless again.

I have the same problem: newly installed 64bit Ubuntu 10.04, on V570 Lenovo. How I solve the problem is to download the latest kernel from www.kernel.org (which is 3.3.0-rc1 in my case) and the reuse the same config-2.6.32-33-generic config file, copy it as ".config" and do the following steps (which is normal kernel compilation:

make oldconfig
make
make modules_install
make install
update-initramfs -c -k `cat include/config/kernel.release`
update-grub

and reboot into the new kernel. Right click on the WIFI icon on the top right gnome window, and check to make sure "enable wireless" (which default to non-enabled), and immedately u can see it is starting to scan for WIFI signal. Commandline is "sudo iwlist scanning", and u can more than just the lo and eth0 interface. This was the case before using the new kernel, when I can only see two interface.

Now WIFI is fully accessible by me.

Can you help with this problem?
