ubuntu 11.10 failed boot without network configuration after upgrade form 11.04

Asked by Omega Soemarso

I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 last 14 Oct 2011.
The 1st boot: network configuration took a long time and failed and finally boot without network configuration.
2nd boot: network configuration took a long time and failed and boot without network configuration failed (it hanged on booting without network configuration)
Now I am running 11.04 without install from cd.
1. kindly advise what to do, to be able to run 11.10 or re install 11.04?
2. Is it possible to have 11.04 & 11.10 installed having the option to run any of them?

You do, unless you removed the Natty kernels ;) If you boot to the installed Oneiric and read:

dmesg | less

It may give clues.

Can you help with this problem?
