11.10 Live CD freezes on start up without Ethernet cable plugged in

Asked by Keegan Shaw

Had the same issue with 11.04. Ended up completely disabling the card on startup in order to get my notebook to actually run.

Here are the details from 11.04. Can someone please advise if I can update to 11.10 (I want to do a fresh install) and have my Ethernet card work?

Umm, no. That's not a good enough answer.

Is my Ethernet card now supported by 11.10?

Its ONLY to TEST.

Yes it is supported but if we TEST the situation, it narrows down the issue. the device can be RE-ENABLED so onoce you disable it it doesn't break the device and make it unusable ever again.

OK I disabled the lan port in the BOIS and I am sending you this message on the live CD. So that is still the problem.

I really do want to upgrade, especially since it looks like my trackpad is now supported in 11.10.

Please let me know about the LAN port sine I want to be able to use everything on my computer.

I'd upgrade, then see if it works there. You know the module or the hardware of the network is causing the issue. It's probable there will be an update to resolve it. I suggest you report the bug so that it gets sorted.

Installed and verified that the computer does not boot if the internal LAN card is enabled in the BOIS.

Can you help with this problem?
