In it's most basic form, you can install samba (sudo apt-get install samba) and access windows shares with very little trouble. Try Googling for the keywords 'samba windows share workgroup' and similar. I think you also need to add the workgroup to one of the Samba config files.

Sharing an Ubuntu share with a Windows machine is only a little more complicated, partly because of the greater security inherent in the GNU/Linux system. Have a look at this fairly recent thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1781455
For a slightly different approach look here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/samba-fileserver.html

Even better appears to be this set of tutorials in three parts. It deals specifically with Windows 7 however you should be able to adapt it to any Windows OS with a bit of thought:

Part One:

Part Two:
http://www.liberiangeek.net/2011/05/connect-ubuntu-11-04-and-windows-systems-via-sambapart-two/

Part Three:
http://www.liberiangeek.net/2011/05/connect-ubuntu-11-04-and-windows-systems-via-sambapart-three/

As you can see there has been a _lot_ written about this topic over the years. For the very little sharing I do with Windows systems (my wife still uses XP and it's the only Windows system in the house) I use the first approach, a very basic share that lets the Ubuntu systems access a Windows shared directory, and lets her machine access the inkjet printer plugged into my machine via Samba.

Connect in what way. Ping uses TCP, so pinging it is technically a connection. Can you expand the question please

Can you help with this problem?
