Change hostname

when i installed 11.04 i accepted the default hostname. I would like it change it now, but want to make sure it does not affect my dual boot with win7. What is involved in changing my hostname.

the hostname you originally chose won't have an effect on windoze in any way whatsoever.

you might want to keep your hostname because once it's changed, there could be some problems and inconsistencies afterwards. i changed it and experienced such problems.

run these 2 commands in different terminals:

gksudo gedit /etc/hostname
gksudo gedit /etc/hosts

With BOTH files open you can change the name in hostname to what you desire but then you must change the occurrences of teh old name in hosts to match the new name (case VERY sensitive). Save the new files and reboot. Should be ok
