`Properly` installing a driver\package

Asked by Midnight Matt

In my attempts to get a wireless network card to work (see question #165739), I get an error msg. stating that the driver (b43legacy) was `not installed (properly)!`. I simply copied this directory into my directory tree, but I guess that isn't a `proper` installation. Anyone out there know which package contains this software so I can `properly` install it?

I've tried all the instructions given @ the above link, and still no luck. The `Additional Drivers` utility in System>Administration menu still shows that there are no proprietary drivers in use on the system, and the `Network Tools` utility doesn't acknowledge the existence of wlan0.

Why when I went all through the steps listed in the above link (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx), I wind up w\ an ineffectual driver called `b43-pci-bridge`?
