Network autoconfiguration failed (While sharing internet from my MacBook-Pro)

Asked by James Litewski

I've been trying to install Ubuntu Server 11.04 onto a desktop computer. Though, the computer doesn't have a wifi-device, and our router is in a different room. Currently I'm simply trying to share my internet access from my MacBook-Pro to the computer I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server onto. I have my MacBook connected to the internet via wifi, and I'm sharing to the computer via Ethernet. Though things have not been simplistic, each time the installer tries to autoconfig the network, it fails.

Now, I would simply bypass this for now, but.. For some reason the installer finds issues during the install, so I need a connection to get the required files.

I feel like I'm doing everything right, so what is going wrong?

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a

Seems a bit expensive, running a Macbook as a router? A router will be cheaper to run in the long run and easier to setup.

How do I run that? (Very new to Linux, and Unix)

Also, I'm just using it during the installation process. I don't have the money for a wifi-card, so I want to simply use my Mac for now.

"CTRL+ALT+T" Brings me to the Ubuntu installer menu.
