applications default internet connection

Asked by John Adam

'Something' must tell applications where to find access to the internet because with a connection running successfully (a Wireless dongle or card), some application cannot connect - sometimes all applications. I can for example have Opera running successfully but the Ubuntu Software Centre says it has no internet connection. On version 11.04
