can internet speed be boosted with a simple fix type code?

i have been downloading various things off the 'Ubuntu Software Center' and i find that my speed is "below average" is there a quick fix for this on ver 11.04.... like a download CAP i dont know about or anything, this is my first time ever using linux based OS.

You can change the mirror from the "software sources" application to one that is located geographically nearer to you.

Your internet speed largely depends upon the type of connection you have to the server.

If you are using a wireless connection switch to a plugin and see if that increases your download speed. But what mycae says above is correct.
