i did edit this and tried to take out what i thought was excessive information. I am so new and was following the instructions from a wifi troubleshooting page which said paste this long string of information. I do hope I have done an adequate job of editing the information. Thank you for your assistance.

Please try the workaround solution described in the following bugreport:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=647208

So copy-paste the following line into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/50-iwl3945.conf

Using the gedit editor, scroll down and add the following configuration line at the end of that file:

options iwl3945 debug=10 disable_hw_scan=0 swcrypto=1

Then reboot and retest wireless.

yes

instructions said to enter this line

So copy-paste the following line into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/50-iwl3945.conf

i did this and got error message as follows:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module":
libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

The error message "libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" means that the package libcanberra-gtk-module is not installed yet on your PC.

Copy-paste the following command into the Terminal and hit <ENTER>:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libcanberra-gtk-module

Then follow my solution procedure.

Can you help with this problem?
