If your router is not broadcasting its ESSID, then for your first connection, you need to "connect to hidden network" (right click on the network-manager icon). You will need to supply the ESSID, the correct encryption method, and the key. Select connect automatically, and available to all users, and the next time, you should connect automatically

Do you use a hidden SSID?
What encryption do you use (if any)?

Can you help with this problem?
