Problem with Ubuntu 11.04 and Intel 3945ABG Wireless on Gateway T-6345U

I have a Gateway T-6345U with Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter. The previous two releases of Ubuntu worked fine. After upgrading to 11.04 the wireless adapter stopped working. The troubleshooting information is

For me after bootup the output of

rfkill list

is

0: hci0: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no

but if I run

sudo modprobe iwl3945

it changes to

0: hci0: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no

Now If I unplug the ethernet and connect to the wifi with Wicd it seems to work. Does this mean that the driver is not loading on bootup?

As explained in my previous posting, I can now manually load the driver and get the wifi to work, but it does not load the driver during bootup. How do I get the computer to load the driver automatically during bootup like it did on previous versions of Ubuntu?

from a terminal window, but I want it to load during bootup.
