Wifi Driver Problems with an Acer Laptop

Asked by Mazin Elhussein

I'm having a problem with My ubuntu 10.10 installation.
i'm setting up a dual boot with windows 7 installed by the manufacturer.
Ubuntu installed fine and it works, but there is no wifi, when i open network manager it says wifi deactivated, and pressing the keyboard command which turns on the wifi receivers changes nothing.
i found little information online, and tried the methods posted but none worked. I'd like some help.

It would be nice if the language used is simple as i am very new to using ubuntu.

Boot into linux, then go to the panel along the top. on the right side there should be an icon that looks like a wire plugged into the wall (if you are connected by cord to the internet) or like 2 computers (the network icon).
Right click on it and make sure that there is a tick in the 'Enable Wireless' box.

I have done that before and it did not work.

Can you help with this problem?
