Using 11.04 beta 2: STA Broadcom wireless driver 43xx on HP dv6000

Asked by Robert Nelson Strobel

Hello,

just upgraded to the test Ubuntu 11.04. I should have known better before support, but I nevertheless cannot get my Broadcom router to work on my HP dv6000. I have searched other forums but none of them seem to help. I cannot find the necessary info to download from the broadcom website.

The wireless driver shows up as present but not active.

Here's a screen shot.

Thanks.

With a wired connection, install package b43-fwcutter, and accept the offer to download the Broadcom files. This will get the correct firmware installed for your driver.

This is a bug in 11.04.
There is a workaround:
 - uninstall the driver from that gui
 - start synaptic (install if you do not have it)
 - remove the STA drivers if they are still there
 - install the b43 installer and fwcutter and reboot.

It should work after that, check the forums, I found the solution there
