Connect your phone with data-cable in PC suite mode. Now go to
System>Preferences>Network connection > Mobile broadband tab > add > configure your settings properly.
Now try to connect.
thanks

Dear Mr.Swagatak Ghosh,
Thanks for your answer.I did the settings and connections according to your instruction. The connection established dialogue box of Ubuntu was shown. But when I opened the Mozilla and tried to load Google it said 'Server not found'.I Couldn't go to any website but the amount for the GPRS session was deducted from my phone balance.I tried twice, both of the time I got the 'Server not found' dialogue box but balance was deducted when I disconnect.Kindly suggest how to go about.
Thanks
Renjith

You said

"The connection established dialogue box of Ubuntu was shown. But when I opened the Mozilla and tried to load Google it said Server not found"

As the system is showing that "The connection established dialogue box " , it means everything is going OK. I think it may be temporary network problem, try another time and with another Sim, it should work.can you give your settings which you have configured......including APN and 2G/3G status.
 thanks

As you are trying to access Internet from your laptop , I think "celloneportal" is not the right APN. You can try with "bsnlnet" , if this does not work please your service provider customer care for the right APN.
thanks
