How to install drivers for Windows on ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Roberts Davidovsdimmuborgir

I have usb modem Huawei E1752 (model),which suppose to be compatible with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Coala, but doesn't work. Actually, my comp do not recon this modem. So, Huawei E1752 has drivers on it, but those drivers are for Windows XP, 7, and Vista, as well for MAC OS, but none for Linux.... Is it possible to install them on my system, and how, if so? Or, is there any sites or ways to download them... Help pls!!!

Windows drivers will not work on Ubuntu, but Ubuntu has native drivers for most hardware available.
Huawei E1752 usb modem should work on Ubuntu, when you have certain packages installed.
Among them are usb-modeswitch (see also http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/) and network-manager-gnome.

There could be a version problem that your modem might be not yet supported on Karmic, but only on newer releases of Ubuntu, but I do not have any information related to that.

In any case, please be aware that the support for Karmic Koala will end by April 2011, and you should plan to upgrade to a supported release in due course (or decide to continue running an unsupported system).

Can you help with this problem?
