Trouble connecting to wireless networks. Networks show up but wont let me connect.
I am using ubuntu 10.10.
Recently I have been having trouble connecting to wireless networks. I have wireless enabled and the networks show up on the "available networks" area, but I can't connect to them for some reason. When I select them, it starts to connect to them, then just stops and says "wireless disconnected".
I have connected to wireless networks before and this has just started to happen. I'm pretty sure that I haven't changed any settings for the wireless. I've tried the usual restart and everything, and the computer is upgraded and working fine, just wireless isn't working.
Any help is appreciated.
Let me know if you need any information about my system.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Step 4: Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known) on this thread
Regards,
Mark

I am currently at a University. While In my room I use the Ethernet cable to plug in directly to the wall. It is when I try and access ANY wireless network that I have problems.(i.e- computer labs, cafe's, library)
Does it make a difference that I am using the Universities wireless networks? They have 3 that I can choose from.
I am currently in class right now and will give you the information when I get back to my room.

Please first execute these steps:
Step 1) run the following command in a Terminal:
sudo touch /etc/modprobe.
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
Step 2) Using the gedit editor, add the following configuration lines into the /etc/modprobe.
alias wlan0 iwl3945
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1 hwcrypto=1
Step 3) Then reboot and retest wireless.
If that does not help, please try this procedure:
http://
Then reboot and retest wireless again.
