ftp settings and software repositories

Asked by Arpad Balind

I installed the vsftpd package. I restarted after the manipulation the vsftpd. conf file the vsftpd service as the http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-an-FTP-Server-in-Ubuntu-Linux tells. But I can not see any ~/ftp folder.

How can I set up properly an ftp server on my desktop ubuntu? If it will be ok, how can I access it from the internet? For example I want to share my documents securely what do I have to type in a browser to access the files?

And further I have some problems with repositories that come from an Hungarian server. I would like to change to the Main Server in Ubuntu 10.10 server in console mode. I do not know the linux command how to move to the main server.

Once they connect to the router they will get DHCP by default and be networked.

Thanks! But I have further problems. I set up wireless network between two machines, they use the same router. Both is online. But in Places-->Network I just see a single folder called Windows Network. After having clicked on it, one writes that "Unable to mount location
Failed to retrieve share list from server".
What is here the problem? Why can not the two machines see each other in a wireless network? Or shall I to set up the proxy? If yes what should I to do?

So you want to setup filesaring between the systems?

What OS are the systems using?

I needed to download a samba package. So the sharing service work properly. But at this stage I also have some problems. If I put some data in a public shared folder in the 'A' machine and I want to copy it through the router generated network to the 'B' machine then I get an error message that the fileoperation is prohibited i.e. I have no permissions. Shall I specify something at the sharing options or?

if you run:

sudo smbpasswd -a $USER

and set the same password as your login, you can then autheticate as the user and get access.Obviously tell your system to remember the credential to save entering it later
