Download speed in ubuntu 10.10 is much lower.
I am not able to achieve higher download speed in ubuntu 10.10 even after configuring wired LAN and wireless network. I am able to get speed upto 1mbps in windows 7 but here its only 40 kbps.

Download rates depend upon many things: How congested the wireless channels are, how many of your neighbors are accessing the cable, how busy the server is from which you are downloading. Try ifconfig and see if you have many errors on the RX packets. Try sudo iwlist scan and check the channel, quality, and Signal level for channel contention (Only channels 1, 6 and 11 don't overlap) switch channels on your ap if too many others are on your channel. And lastly, question your "configuration" -- I accept all the defaults, run open drivers and firmware on a 5 yr old laptop, and can get 1.9MB/sec if the server is fast.

I don't know much about linux, tryin it for the first time. I know it depends on many things but when I log into windows I get much higher speed. below is the output of sudo iwlist scan.
Also confirm which one is better for wired lan - Automatic DHCP or manual configuration.
-------
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

DHCP is fine for the wired, but if you want your IP address assigned through the wireless, just turn it off for the wired connection. You have a totally congested channel 1 with many high strength signals contending for the bandwidth. switch to channel 6 or 11 on your ap if possible. If you are downloading the same file (same server) at (approximately) the same time from windows and Ubuntu, you should see very similar performance.
