After upgrading to ubuntu 10.04 can not connect to internet and no network manager icon

Asked by GloriaWilliams

During upgrade received notices of problems with Cobra, Cups, and this message:
'nvidia-kernel-common'
subprocess installed preremoval script returned error exit status 127 install archives ( ) failed
Can I go back to my old Ubuntu system and settings? if so, how?
I have a wireless connection using Netgear USB.
Under Network Connections/Edit/eding wireless connections I need to answer:
What is the BSSID?
What is the AP?
What is the difference between Infrastructure or Ad-hoc?
What is the difference between IPv4 Settings and Automatic DHCP?

I've only reinstalled to drop back a release, (after backingup your home directory of course), so lets try and fix your wireless problem. The AP is your access point, or the wireless router. Typically, you only need to enter the SSID (not the BSSID), infrastructure (since you are using an AP), and select DHCP to set up all the IP address automatically.

Can you help with this problem?
