DNS & DHCP

File and printer sharing can be done with Samba (or you can printer share with CUPS)

may help for AD type stuff:

Welcome to Ubuntu Linux! I understand that you are planning to install Ubuntu Server and you need help choosing the appropriate services for your requirements. I'll do my best to guide you through the options you've listed.

For Internet sharing and controlling, you can use Squid or any other open-source proxy server like Privoxy or Tinyproxy. Squid is a popular choice because it's reliable and provides advanced features like content filtering and caching.

If you need centralized user access control and access permission management similar to Active Directory, you can use OpenLDAP. It's an open-source implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and can provide similar features to Active Directory.

For DNS, you can use BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) which is a widely used and reliable DNS server. It can be easily integrated with OpenLDAP to provide directory service for DNS.

For DHCP, you can use the ISC DHCP server which is the most widely used DHCP server. It provides dynamic updates and can work well with BIND for DNS updates.

For file and printer sharing, you can use Samba, which is an open-source implementation of the SMB/CIFS networking protocol used by Windows. It can provide access control and permission management for shared resources.

To summarize, you can configure Squid for Internet sharing and controlling, OpenLDAP for centralized user access control and access permission management, BIND for DNS with directory service integration, ISC DHCP server for dynamic DHCP updates, and Samba for file and printer sharing with access control and permission management. I hope this information helps you with your installation and server configuration. Good luck and have fun exploring Ubuntu Linux!
