What huawei model you use?

if you use modem with micro-sd reader feature, you must first eject the device from terminal. So it will be recognised by Network manager. If you use netbook $ eject /dev/sr0 and if you use notebook $ eject /dev/sr1

after you do that you go to top panel and right click on "network" icon. Choose "edit connections" and then go to "mobile broadband" tab. Click add, and the network manager will detect the modem automatic. Just enter all the needed information like Username / pass and dial number.

I hope it will help.
