conflict between rt2800usb and rt2870sta drivers -> DLink DWA-160 usb b/g/n wireless adapter - Bus 001 Device 003: ID 07d1:3c11 D-Link System - not working correctly on Dell Inspiron 9100 in Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

Asked by Juan Carrillo

My DLink DWA-160 usb b/g/n card does not seem to connecting correctly with my router. When I plug into my laptop in detects it and appears to connect, however when I try to get on the internet it's as though it is not connected. I have attached the following text in anticipation that I may be asked to do so judging from what was recommended from people with similar questions.

After this operation, 2,060kB of additional disk space will be used.

Juan - If you have an Ethernet cable use it to connect directly to your router and see if you can access the internet that way.

I had this problem and once connected by cable to the internet I was prompted to download a 'Broadcom' driver. After that wireless started working.

Get fully updated on the the wired connection. Also run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-firmware

Seems you are connected too. Connect to ONLY the wireless and run:

ping -c 4 8.8.8.8

Does it ping ok?

I think you need to execute the following solution procedure:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9720270&postcount=257

See here for more details:

http://wiki.debian.org/rt2870sta

and here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/446889

So you will need to run the following Terminal command:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Using the gedit editor, scroll down and ADD the following 4 lines at the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file:

blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2800lib
blacklist rt2x00usb
blacklist rt2x00lib

Then SAVE the change to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file.

Connect to your wireless router using a wired ethernet connection. Change the wireless security setting from AES+TKIP to AES.

Then reboot and retest wireless.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Juan Carrillo for more information if necessary.
