Lucid 10.04-1LTS - Wifi instability - 2.6.36.1 kernel

Asked by jcglt

I have suffered months of Wifi instability on my laptop, starting with Karmic then Lucid with generic kernels. I tried wicd, network-manager, volonin patched network-manager, various kernels without any lasting success.

This morning I just upgraded the kernel from 2.6.32.26-generic to the new 2.6.36.1-generic (same family as used on maverick and natty ?) and my connexion stability seems to have improved. I don't know if this improvement will last but the new kernel is working well on my laptop.

No this is not a question, just an additional information to my former questions : 132492, 133714, 135241 and 135774.
I have been facing serious problems of wifi unstability, deconnexions every two or three minutes and the upgrade to 2.6.36.1 kernel seems to improve things but this needs to be confirmed after several days or weeks of use.

I tried also the new kernel 2.6.37.9 but it was not as good as 2.6.36.1 and I tried again wicd then reverted to network-manager with volonin patch.
Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.04-1LTS with 2.6.36-1-generic kernel and volonin patched network-manager and for the first time since two years I can say that my WiFi connexion has been steady during one week. I consider my problem is - at last - solved.
